LABORATORY PRODUCTIONS: 听

SPOTLIGHT, STUDIO, & STUDENT WORK

These productions encourage creativity and exploration in a practical learning environment, prioritizing process over production value, minimal design and technical elements while providing artists the opportunity to hone their skills.

TheatreOCU Studio Season

The Studio Series is an immersive training laboratory designed to merge classroom skills with the practical production environment. Under faculty mentorship, the Studio Series prioritizes creative process over commercial product and nurtures experimentation, artistic authenticity, and craft development.听Studio productions are identified by one of two artistic approaches: Innovation听and Collaboration.听

Innovation focuses on essential storytelling elements such as the actor directors service to text.听With a limited budget, these productions do not utilize scenic, lighting, sound, or costume design elements, nor are they assigned a BFA Design & Production student Stage Manager. This approach focuses instead on experimentation, imagination, and exploration.

Collaboration听expands the series to integrate design and production elements into storytelling. BFA Design & Production students are chosen for select projects, creating opportunities for performers, directors, and designers to explore the creative possibilities that emerge when artists work together toward a common theatrical vision.
